The Data Compression Book provides you with a comprehensive reference to this important field. No other book available has the detailed description of compression algorithms or working C implementations for those algorithms. If you are planning to work in this field, The Data Compression Book is indispensable. Abstract. We present data compression techniques hinged on the notion of a motif, interpreted here as a string of intermittently solid and wild characters that recurs more or less frequently in an input sequence or family of notion arises originally in the analysis of sequences, particularly biomolecules, due to its multiple implications in the understanding of biological.

Image compression usually considers the minimization of storage space as its main objective. It is desirable, however, to code images so that we have the ability to process the resulting representation directly. In this thesis we explore an approach to document image compression that is efficient in both space (storage requirement) and time (processing flexibility). Initially, test data set is compressed by 0/1 prefix run- length codes. Then, the compressed data are chopped into fixed-length blocks and further encoded by Huffman algorithm. It is observed that the global compression is highly dependent upon the chopping size of initially compressed data .

Abstract: LOCO-I (low complexity lossless compression for images) is a novel lossless compression algorithm for continuous-tone images which combines the simplicity of Huffman coding with the compression potential of context models, thus "enjoying the best of both worlds." The algorithm is based on a simple fixed context model, which approaches the capability of the more complex universal.

We show that greedy left-to-right (right-to-left) parsing is optimal w.r.t. a suffix (prefix) dictionary. To exploit this observation, we show how to construct a static suffix dictionary that supports on-line, linear-time optimal parsing.

From this we derive an adaptive on-line method that yields compression comparing favorably to LZW. Proceedings, Data Compression Conference Data Compression Conference DCC Data Compression Conference,DCC '96, proceedings: Responsibility: edited by James A.

We present in this article a linear time and space data compression method. This method, based on a factor oracle and the computation of the length of repeated suffixes, is easy to implement, fast and gives good compression ratios. Comput. Abstract. This paper proposes a lossless (reversible) data compression method for bi-level images, particularly printing images. In this method, called Dispersed Reference Compression (DRC), the coding scheme is changed according to the characteristics of the images to be compressed by Evolvable ational simulations demonstrate that DRC provides compression.

Data compression techniques and technology are ever-evolving with new applications in image, speech, text, audio, and video. The fourth edition includes all the cutting edge updates the reader. We prove that our algorithms attain the entropy for balanced binary sources. They run in linear time.

Moreover, one of the main advantages of this approach is that it produces very fast decompressors. A second advantage is a synchronization property that is helpful to search compressed data and allows parallel compression."
