It has a well-developed Northwest rift zone, a moderately well-developed South-Southeast rift zone, and a poorly developed North rift zone.
The most recent eruption of occurred along the Northwest rift zone. The earthquakes were most likely caused by an intrusion of magma beneath the volcano. Two large earthquakes (each about magnitude ) destroyed houses, water tanks, stone fences, and roadways.
